Writers Block 3 – starting from scratch

14 Nov

In my last two posts about writers block, it was assumed that there was`already background work on which to play with. Abandoned work, ideas going nowhere, a simple notebook with scraps of images.

Today I want to present an idea of how to overcome the problem of getting started. Creating a fresh idea from scratch.

It is a simple approach. Write a list of ten items. Mine today is;

a table, a packet of biscuits, car keys, wet washing, a picture of new york, playing cards,  a pair of glasses, pebbles, cigarette lighter and a flask.

Now set yourself a ten minute time limit. Write a piece incorporating each of those items, or at least as many as you can.

You can use my list if you wish. this is just an exercise to get you writing. I have many ideas coming to from this already, but I won’t spoil the inspiration for you.

Let me know how you get on, share your ten minute idea. You never know, it might be the start of something.
